The 2022 Heard Museum Guild
American Indian Youth Art Show & Sale
March 5-6, 2022
For Youth Artists, Parents, Teachers and Mentors
We’re back! The original Student Art Show & Sale has been rebranded as the Youth Art Show & Sale (YASS) for 2022. American Indian students in grades 7-12 are invited to submit their original artwork.
Held in conjunction with the famed Heard Guild Indian Fair & Market, YASS provides students the opportunity to display their work at the Heard Museum, have their art judged by a professional panel, compete for ribbon and cash awards, and sell their artwork! *
The Heard Museum Guild student art show began back in 1986 and encourages emerging youth artists to showcase their talents—often for the first time. Students in grades 7 through 12 from tribes across the U.S. participate in this show and sale. Youth can submit an array of traditional and fine art – katsina dolls, pottery, baskets, jewelry, beadwork, weavings, paintings, and sculpture, as well as unique contemporary works in creative media.
A panel of knowledgeable art scholars, including professional artists, professors, curators and collectors, judge the youth entries prior to the show. The judges award first, second, and third ribbons (with cash prizes) in 13 art categories and two divisions (grades 7-9 and grades 10-12). Best of show, best of division and other special ribbons are also awarded. In recent years, the total amount awarded to youth artists has averaged about $7,000+ (and more than $500,000 total during the years the show has been held.)
Each youth artist prices his or her works to sell during the show. After the judging, youth artists’ work will be displayed and sold in the Monte Vista Room of the Heard Museum during the Indian Fair & Market on March 5-6, 2022.
