2023 Heard Museum Guild
American Indian Youth Art
Show + Sale
March 4-5, 2023

Thank you to all the artists and teachers who submitted art to the Show + Sale and congratulations to the award winners.

Here is the list of award winners.

Youth Artists, Parents, Teachers, and Mentors…

We hope you will join us for the Youth Art Show + Sale at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona, and held in conjunction with the famed Heard Guild Indian Fair & Market on March 4-5, 2023!

The Guild invites American Indian students in grades 7-12 to submit their finest original artwork to be judged by a professional panel, compete for ribbons and cash awards, and to be sold to the public!* Students from tribes across the U.S. have participated in this show and sale since 1986. Youth can submit an array of traditional and fine art – katsina dolls, pottery, baskets, jewelry, beadwork, weavings, paintings, and sculpture, as well as unique contemporary works in creative media.  The Guild has awarded more than half a million dollars to young artists during the years the show has been held.

The pages in this section of our website provide all the details and forms to assist you in preparing and submitting entries for YASS.  Review all the information in “Student & Teacher Quick Links” on the right side of this page. Please review the pages in their entirety.

Pay special attention to these issues:

  • NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED. Deadline is 4 p.m. February 27, 2023.
  • Each piece of art must be reasonably priced by the student. This is a show & sale.  Students must be willing to sell their entries.
  • Size must be considered.  The panels on which we hang the art are about 30 inches wide.  Two-dimensional work must fit in this space.
  • All pieces will be available for sale until the show closes on March 5, 2023.
  • Teachers’ grant requests must be included with students’ art and must be clear and specific about what the requested funds will be used for.  Stating “art supplies” is not specific enough for grant requests.

We very much look forward to seeing all the amazing artwork by young American Indian artists at the Youth Art Show + Sale in March 2023!!

Sincerely,

Sue Snyder and Stephany Madsen, Co-Coordinators, Heard Guild Youth Art Programs
Kathie McIsaac and Kerry Jo Hanstein, Co-Chairs, Youth Art Show +Sale

All adult Fair rules and fees will apply in that case. Eighteen-year-olds may only enter one competition: the Fair or YASS. There will be no juried “Youth Division” at the 2023 Indian Fair & Market
