Las Guias New Exhibit Training Committee

The Las Guias New Exhibit Training Committee provides supplemental training for Las Guias members following Museum exhibit openings.  Exhibit Training Committee members are appointed by the Guild Education Coordinator with input from the Museum Director of Education for a 2-year period which may be extended by the Education Coordinator.

Duties of the New Exhibit Training Committee members:  The members

  • are voting members of the Education Council, attend all Education Council meetings and make progress reports to the Council.
  • report problems to the Education Coordinator relating to the trainings and attend all meetings called by the Coordinator.
  • invite the Coordinator to all committee meetings.
  • make all arrangements necessary with the Museum Events Coordinator to hold trainings.
  • review the content of the Guild website to determine the accuracy of the information pertaining to the work of the committee. If changes are necessary, send to the Education Coordinator.
  • at the end of the year, shall review the committee job description posted on the Guild website, make any necessary changes and send these changes to the Education Coordinator.
  • shall submit the annual Committee Report using the Sample Committee Report as a guide.

Tasks of the New Exhibit Training Committee members:  The members

  • meet and schedule walk-through trainings of new exhibits, after the initial Museum Education Department sponsored walk-through, for Guides who either miss the initial training or have a desire to attend another walk-though.
  • prepare and offer the training sessions on different days of the week, at different times, including weekends.
  • keep attendance records of guides who participate and submit the records to the Museum Tour Scheduler immediately after each session.
  • at the beginning of each new exhibit, members consult with library staff, shall select pertinent background reading material and request the material be placed on reserve on the Las Guias rolling cart in the Museum library for the duration of the exhibit.

Timeline:

April-May

  • Review the website description of the Committee’s duties and tasks, communicate with other Committee members about suggested changes, make the agreed upon changes and send to the Education Coordinator.
  • Submit the Committee’s annual report to the Education Coordinator with copies to the Guild Secretary for distribution.

The Heard Museum Guild Board encourages innovation and process improvement, but new initiatives and/or different approaches, activities, or actions must be discussed with the assigned Coordinator and/or Guild Executive Committee and, if necessary, approved by the Guild Board and/or Museum.
