Indian Fair & Market Chair
The Chair of the Indian Fair & Market (“Fair Chair”) is responsible for all aspects of the annual Indian Fair & Market. The Fair Chair is advised by a Steering Committee. The Fair Chair appoints all the Fair Committee Chairs, and ad hoc committees are formed as needed.

The Fair Chair, Steering Committee, and all the Indian Fair & Market Committees coordinate and liaise with the Community Services Coordinator.

Artists Committees
Artist Exhibitors Committee
This committee processes artist applications, conducts jurying to identify the American Indian artists who will exhibit at the Fair, processes contracts and booth payments, and assigns booth spaces. The Chair is a member of the Steering Committee. All the Committees in the Artists section coordinate with the Artist Exhibitors Committee Chair.

This committee identifies about 25 artists to display, demonstrate, and discuss their art to the public as well as facilitates booths for non-profit organizations.

This committee is responsible for providing refreshments for the artists at the Fair.

This committee secures one artist in each of the eight judging categories to participate in a panel discussion and hosts and moderates the event.

This committee reviews all artist booths during the Fair weekend for compliance with artist contracts and Fair standards.

Booth Relief
This committee provides volunteers to temporarily staff the booths of artists and demonstrators so they can have 15-20 minute breaks. The volunteer answers questions and watches the art but does not sell.

This committee provides a program of Indian performers on both the Amphitheater and Pavilion stages. The committee selects and contracts with 5-6 performance groups. The Chair is a member of the Steering Committee.

Juried Competition
This committee keeps the judging standards current, selects judges, purchases the ribbons, and organizes and conducts Receiving, judging, set-up for Best of Show, returning art, and distributing award checks. The Chair is a member of the Steering Committee.

This committee plans and contracts with a Museum-approved caterer for a buffet dinner on Best of Show evening.

This committee solicits art from the prior year’s Fair award-winning artists and then plans, stages, and oversees the Silent Auction on Best of Show evening.

This committee monitors the Best of Show display in Steele Auditorium to ensure that art is not touched during the public viewing of the award-winning art.

Fashion Walk About
This committee approaches accepted Fair clothing and accessory designers to participate in the Fashion Walk About during Best of Show evening and the Fair weekend and encourages other American Indian designers to apply to the Fair and join the Walk About.

Admissions
This committee plans the admissions tent for a smooth operation, coordinates with the Guild Treasurer for money handling control and security, and supervises four shifts of cashiers.

This committee solicits donations of artwork from Fair artists who did not receive awards at the prior year’s Fair and sells drawing tickets at the Fair.

Best of Show Drawing
This committee selects three or four art pieces consistent with the theme of the Fair to be included in the drawing at the Best of Show dinner, determines the price and number of tickets to be sold, arranges for publicity, and sells tickets at Museum and Guild events.

This committee designs merchandise based on the Fair theme, determines the products and their quantities, and contracts for the production of the merchandise.

Logistical Operations Committees
Staging
This committee manages and documents the physical aspects of the Fair; rents, buys, and otherwise provides all the equipment and services as specified by the Fair committees; and troubleshoots during the week before the Fair, during the Fair, and during the tear-down days after the Fair. The Staging Chair is a member of the Steering Committee and has knowledge of all Fair aspects. All the Committees in the Logistical Operations section coordinate with the Staging Chair.

The Staging Chair appoints the following three Chairs:
- Parking Signs: This committee updates the parking signs, places them prior to the Fair, and removes and stores them after the Fair.
- Permits: This committee prepares and submits the paperwork needed to obtain the required permits for the Fair.
- Operations Center: During set-up week and the Fair, this committee is the central point for all requests and the dispatch point for all assistance.

This committee determines what signs are needed for the Fair and supplies and installs them. It maintains a sign inventory; orders new signs as needed; and installs, removes, and stores the signs after the Fair.

General Food & Beverage
This committee determines food and beverage needs and quantities; negotiates prices; contracts with vendors to provide all food and beverage at the Fair; and coordinates with Staging for space, tent, and equipment needs. The Co-Chairs, one focused on Food and the other on Beverages, are members of the Steering Committee.

American Indian Food
This committee determines what Indian food should be offered and who will provide it, selects chefs for demonstrations and tastings, and organizes the sale of indigenous ingredients.

The American Indian Food Chair appoints the Piki Bread Chair.
- Piki Bread Chair: The Chair secures the Hopi ladies to demonstrate making Piki Bread. During the Fair the Chair oversees the operation of the Piki Bread booth including selling the Bread and obtaining payment for the demonstrators.

This committee organizes and staffs table stations throughout the Fair grounds to provide information and directions to Fair visitors.

Volunteer Placement
This committee recruits a pool of volunteers from internal and external sources for the Fair to assist the Chairs. The pool is a back-up resource for those Chairs who have not been able to fill all their volunteer positions. This committee also prepares and distributes the volunteer badges.
