Nominating Committee Chair

The Nominating Committee Chair presents to the Guild a single slate of candidates for the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Nominating Committee Chair. The committee shall consist of five members of the Guild: the Chair and four members appointed by the Chair. The Nominating Chair takes office in May. The Chair is a voting member of the Board of Directors and must have served on the Nominating Committee the previous year.

Duties of the Nominating Committee Chair:

  • Accepts and carries out such duties as may be assigned by the President of the Board of Directors in addition to those stated.
  • Attends all meetings of the Board of Directors and Guild and other such meetings as required by the President.
  • Acknowledges, by thank you note or other means, appreciation for the work done by Committee members.
  • Reviews the content of the public section of the Guild website to determine the accuracy of the information pertaining to the work of the committee. Sends necessary changes to webmaster@heardguild.org.
  • At the end of the year, reviews the committee chair job description posted on the Guild website. Makes any necessary changes and sends to webmaster@heardguild.org.
  • At the end of the year submit an annual Committee Report.

 Tasks:

 Become knowledgeable about Guild members, their ability and participation in Guild projects and activities in order to recruit potential officers of the Board.

  • Call a Nominating Committee meeting in January to develop a slate of candidates for open office(s), and a maximum of four members of the incoming Nominating Committee who are not presently serving on the committee. A Chair for the incoming Nominating Committee is selected from the ranks of the current members.
  • Obtain consent from each individual on the slate of officers and Nominating Committee.
  • Present the slate to the Board of Directors at their February meeting, submit the slate to happeningnow@heardguild.org to be published in the March Happening Now,and announce the slate at the March general meeting.
  • Nominations may be made from the floor at the March meeting provided consent of the nominee has been obtained. Such floor nominees must meet the requirements listed in the Guild By-Laws Article X, Sec. 3, Para. 2.
  • Assist the President with the election of Guild officers and Nominating Committee at the April general meeting in accordance with the Guild By-Laws Article X, Sec. 3 Para. 5.

Timeline

September – December

  • Become familiar with potential officer candidates’ skills and backgrounds

January

  • Convene the Nominating Committee and select a single slate for each vacancy.
  • Gain permission of each candidate to nominate.

February

  • Present the slate of those who have consented to run for office to the Board of Directors and Nominating Committee at the February Board meeting.
  • Arrange to have the approved slate published in Happening Now.

March

  • Announce the slate at the March general meeting of the Guild.

April

  • Assist the President at the April general meeting with the election of officers and Nominating Committee as described above under “Tasks”
  • Review website job description of committee work and job descriptions. Send changes to webmaster@heardguild.org.
  • Submit the annual report as described above under “Duties”.
  • Acknowledge the work of committee members.

 

The Heard Museum Guild Board encourages innovation and process improvement, but new initiatives and/or different approaches, activities, or actions must be discussed with the assigned Coordinator and/or Guild Executive Committee and, if necessary, approved by the Guild Board and/or Museum.
