The 16th annual Heard Museum Guild Book Sale & Treasure Market will be held
the last weekend of January 2012:
- Friday, January 27: noon-5 p.m. for Museum members only (Join here!).
- Saturday, January 28: 9:30-5 p.m.
- Sunday, January 29: 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
A Silent Auction will begin Friday at noon and end Saturday at 3 p.m.
The first Heard Museum Library Book Sale was held in 1996 when a few people gathered some used books to raise money for special library projects. In the last 15 years the sale has grown to thousands of books sorted into more than 70 categories including many rare, out-of-print, and lovable old books, as well as books on tape, videos, and CDs. The current sale focus is on the books, framed art, jewelry, katsina dolls, and the Silent Auction.
Funds raised by the sale benefit special projects of the museum’s Billie Jane Baguley Library and Archives. The Library and Archives is a comprehensive research facility that includes information about indigenous art and cultures from around the world and an unparalleled resource file containing information about more than 25,000 American Indian artists.
Those books that do not sell are delivered to southern Arizona Indian reservations for their libraries and adult centers.
