The Heard Museum Guild Library Book Sale & Treasure Market

The first Heard Museum Library Book Sale was held in 1997 when a few people gathered some used books to raise money for special library projects. In the last twelve years the sale has grown to thousands of books sorted into more than 40 categories including many rare, out-of-print and loveable old books, as well as books on tape, videos and CDs. Most titles are priced $1 and up, paperbacks 50 cents. In addition, the Treasures Market has art, artifacts, decorator items, jewelry and many dolls in native costume.

Funds raised by the sale benefit special projects of the museum’s Billie Jane Baguley Library and Archives. The Library and Archives is a comprehensive research facility that includes information about indigenous art and cultures from around the world and an unparalleled resource file containing information about more than 23,500 American Indian artists.

Those books which do not sell are delivered to southern Arizona Indian reservations for their libraries and adult centers.
